1 In 400,000,000,000,000.

This is the calculation by scientists of the likelihood that YOU would be born. Those are quite the odds against your existence, yet, here you are. Maybe you have seen this statistic before. Maybe not.

In comparison, if you started a business today and you made $1,000,000 every single day, 365 days a year, it would take you 2723 years to make $1 trillion. And a million years to make just under 400 trillion.

The odds are so narrow that it would be more likely that you’d find yourself in an elevator in Singapore with the CEO of a company you just interviewed with in Los Angeles two days earlier. She asks you what you do for a living and you say, “Well, I’ve been interviewing to advance my career.” You tell her about your experience interviewing with a company two days earlier and she says, “No kidding, that’s my company.” She then asks, “What school did you graduate from?” You tell her and she says, “No kidding, that’s my alma mater.” Then asks, “What are you doing for lunch?”

The truth is, you have been invited on stage to perform. Do you feel you are truly taking this rare opportunity to shine? I hope so because in 5 years from now you could be laying in a hospital bed staring at the ceiling hoping for the chance to be healthy enough to do something about it. It happens all the time. Not that it will happen to you, but living like it could tends to shift your thinking and drives up the value of each day you are here.

You have a voice. You do have a choice. You have the power, the courage, and the strength within you to make significant things happen.

Life doesn’t suck. It isn’t fine. It’s not ok. We don’t just get by. It’s not out of our control. It isn’t “just how it is”. It isn’t random. It isn’t insignificant. It’s not without reason. And, it doesn’t only happen on the weekends. You have a voice. You do have a choice. You have the power, the courage, and the strength within you to make significant things happen. You are loved and some people do care. You do matter and what you do with the time you have been granted here does make a difference.

Tomorrow morning when you open your eyes, look out the window at the amazing star shining in the sky that gives you warmth, provides you nutrients which in turn keep you healthy, and gives you the astonishing beauty surrounding you for your eyes to see, ears to hear, tongue to taste, and finger tips to touch. Make every effort to grasp that 1 in 400 trillion calculation. Just the fact that you exist is amazing. But what you are capable of doing with that opportunity can (and does) change the course of our collective evolution. One of the greatest tragedies is to take for granted our senses and instead see them as given attributes of the human form. The tools we are given to experience our reality offer astonishing gifts in every moment. Acknowledge how amazing you are. Then, mirror that to the world.
