Home is Cape Girardeau, MO, the largest city between St. Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee. Cape sets on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River in the heartland of America. A great community to raise four amazing kids. Being a sports enthusiast, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach my kids in various sports such as soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball for over 18 years. I now find myself spending any free time slowing things down and getting away to the outdoors.
My outdoor activities during the heat and humidity of the summer season usually takes me to one of the many lakes and small rivers surrounding the Southeast Missouri area where I enjoy canoeing. During the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons you will find me camping, enjoying a good campfire, and preparing meals over the fire. Many of my favorite camping locations are nestled within the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. There you will find beautiful geological formations, lakes, hiking trails, and miles and miles of gravel roads that wind through the scenic forest, ideal for bikepacking. All of that, right here in my proverbial backyard, where I don’t have to travel far, to go far!
I attribute my newfound love of the outdoors to Scott and his content on the 4XPEDITION YouTube channel. I was intrigued by Scott’s buildout of his Subaru Outback and the addition of a rooftop tent. It inspired me to do a similar setup with my Outback. I thoroughly enjoy the benefits of my rooftop tent with little to no complaints! Someday, I would like to pack up and venture further out and explore many of the amazing places this country has to offer. My dream is to one day retire to a small cabin nestled in the woods away from the hustle and bustle.
For me, it’s all about venturing out, slowing life down, and reflecting on the little things.
