So when my daughter was born in 2019, my wife’s mom got this car for us from her sister. It had been sitting at their lake house for at least 3 years. So it was gifted to us as a baby shower gift, and specifically to me since I decided to sell my beloved 2002 Audi A4 Quattro 3.0 V6 6-speed manual to find a better family car. This is the reason why I found 4Xpedition in the first place, searching for Outback videos on YouTube.
I made that dash cover using some felt I bought at a Michael’s. I cut it a little long, then using a piece of chalk I outlined the area on the dashboard to cover what I wanted without obstructing the defroster vent or the speakers. I cut a little wider along the chalk outline and then folded under the extra bits and figured out how to use a sewing machine to sew it down and make a nice edge
As far as modifications I have installed the Nameless 5” axle-back muffler, and I installed a K&N replacement filter after removing the charcoal screen in the air filter housing. The car has also seen extreme neglect so I’ve been doing routine maintenance like water pump, head gasket, valve filter gaskets, and anything else that hasn’t been done.
I was planning on getting new wheels and tires and a 1.5” lift with King Springs and Bilstein B6 shocks but I think in a couple years when our daughter is out of daycare and in school then we’ll shop for a newer Outback for me, and hopefully we can find a good Wilderness edition.
Anyways, thanks for reading if you made it this far! Keep Adventuring!
Nice! That 4X patch fits nicely with your military patches. Thank for your service to our country!
Nice intro to your machine, @matthew-blair (TEAM 4X Member #5) I appreciate you, Matt, and all of your help early on back in October or November to help me get the member purchase process worked out. I have been down the road of raising kids. I recall the daycare costs and preschool costs, and now I'm in the middle of the college costs. Everything in due time on the Subi. And, for the record, I always loved the Quatro. Do you remember the Audi Fox? All-wheel drive also.
I like the sound of some of those mods. Sounds different than
most of what I have seen. Look forward to following along on that build...over time. Cheers, my friend!
