Travel to anywhere outside of my local Northern New Mexico region has been simply out of the question this year. But, that's no bother as everything is new to me here. It has been a long, long time since I've lived in a place where I didn't know "what's down that road"? I have to say, this change has been significant for me in many ways. I really needed a change. I had been in Phoenix for over 30 years. Though, I had also been able to travel abroad and on long-range road trips in the USA. Living somewhere completely new is a whole different animal.
The cabin is coming along. I have been trying to centralize my focus on only a few things with the cabin renovation and build of the addition is required in order to live here this winter. And, this isn't a typical renovation as there is no running water, septic, plumbing, or heating system. All that needs to be done within the next three months...and I am very unfamiliar with most of it. It is daunting and exciting at the same time.
Nonetheless, Heather and I did get an opportunity to climb the 13,157 foot Wheeler Peak with a couple of local gents (video edits and release later this week). That was remarkable. Here are a few photos.
Otherwise, as I mentioned, only working on the cabin. I am happy to share that Luke Moussa and his partner Megan came by on our first day living on the property. That was fun. They played us some tunes on guitar.
Heather and I have enjoyed walks off the property behind us. Goes into a beautiful valley that we have named "Valley of the Herd" as the other night we witnessed over 100 elk running together down the valley. We also found a great pond in a small canyon just down the road from the property. Should be a great spot for ice skating and snowshoeing.
And, we finished the wood floors! 1-inch thick pine planks (12 inches wide and 6 inches wide) with a wash stain and staple gunned to the sub floor.
Loving this place.
