My friend Len just posted these photos on Facebook of his camping trip to Roosevelt Overlook. I think this looks like a great place for either a solo with solitude trip and/or a Team 4X meetup. I've been up and down this road but never camped at this spot. Looks truly spectacular.

Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go!! 🤓
I've camped out there a few times with my at the time brother in law, it's not bad. The road is close enough and there's not much vegetation so vehicles driving up to Young or returning can be loud, not a bad idea to take that into account when circling the wagons to shield sleeping/socializing zones with vehicle mass.
Nice thing with those canyon/mesa edges is insects and snakes tend to mostly avoid them. We've had the odd wasp or hornet buzz around but not much else.
Hope you're able to camp out there soon before it gets hot!

Nice! We must all remember that @shovel lived in the desert before heading north. Great to know those details about the noise.
@john-twarog this is one of the adventure destinations I was going to suggest to you with your new Palomino Truck Camper.
Definitely going to check that out! Never done that Overlook. I've done many camping and fishing trips to Roosevelt over the years. My dad used to take us up there back on the late 60's early 70's. I remember we would load up in his old 56' Buick Super, or Oldsmobile Station wagon, LOL! Those were our "Overland" rigs of the day!
Then in the late 70's early 80's , used to go up on many pre and post High School graduation trips. My favorite was to load up a 12 ft, small fishing boat with a electric trolling motor, and go across the lake and camp out on the cliffs with a roaring bond fire, and catfish all night! Throw our lines in with some old chicken liver or gizzards, and pull in some nice size catfish in the morning!
Glad you mentioned that! It really brought up some great memories! In fact I almost forgot how many trips I made up there!
My last memorable trip was with my wife, and 2 Golden retrievers. We had an old 70's Tri-Hull ski boat named (Mustang Sally!) that I had spent a few months patching up! The first few times on the water at Lake Pleasant, it broke down before barely leaving the dock! LOL!
Finally got it running good, and we took a week long excursion. If you've never towed a boat from Tortilla Flat down the "Apache Trail"...Don't! LOL! I don't know how I did not scrape the cliff walls, or dump it off the side, let alone let other vehicles pass by! When we got to the bottom in one piece! We actually pulled over and popped a bottle of Champagne! And counted our blessings! It was all gravel and no guard rails at that time, not sure how it is now, that's the last time I've done it!
That was the start of a Great week though! We camped at each of the Lakes a night or two. Canyon Lake, Apache and then Roosevelt. Apache has a nice little hotel where we stayed at, the time. But most nights we would load up the boat and go across the lakes, and find a nice private cove to hide out for the night. Funny, after getting that little boat going good, I ended up rescuing more people than I can remember, with much nicer and newer boats, that were broke down, and stranded!
"Mustang Sally" finally did her due, after we had to be rescued and towed in a few times!
Wow! Thanks for stirring up those memories!!
@john-twarog
In two weeks we will be on our way to Bozeman to pick up our GoFast Nomad V2 wedge truck camper. When we are in AZ this winter we will be sure to schedule an overnighter with you and the rest of the AZ gang.
