Hello campers,

My name is Lou and I live in San Diego. I am new to camping and want to put together a minimalist setup based around my stock Subaru Forester. I was inspired by the 4Xpedition utube videos and look forward to being a member.

Welcome!

I had an '01 Forester for a few years,  made a decent road tripper and dirt road explorer!     Not perfect, but that may vary by hear and build.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with it

Welcome, Lou!

I love my Crosstrek, but sometimes I miss the extra room I had in my 2010 Forester that I passed on to my youngest daughter. I’ve had 3 different generations of Foresters over the past 20 years and loved them all. Keep us posted on your build and I hope to see it in person soon.

Cheers!

Hi Lou!  Glad to have you on the team.  I'm a big fan of the minimalist/practical setup.  Not sure how far along or what your plans are for the Forester, but please reach out to the team with any questions you might have on your build.  Cheers!

Also, where in SD are you?  I called Kensington my home for several years.  Are you familiar with the Julian Blues Bash by chance?

Hello Luke,

Sorry about the late reply, I didn't notice your post. I never heard of the Julian Blues Bash but looked it up on Utube. Looks great. I used to go to Patrick's bub downtown for great blues music but its closed down now. I live in North Clairmont about the same distance from the beach as Kensington but a few miles North. Just far away so you don't get the marine layer but you can get to the beach on a hot day.

Hey Lou!

not too long ago I was up near you camping in my Subaru all up the coast. I feel like you definitely have to get strategic on camping and campgrounds in California. I went during the times of Covid restrictions, And all the campgrounds were pretty full since I didn’t do any reservations. So I ended up finding some pretty amazing camp spots. I found one over in San Bernardino in a national forest area that seem to be a neighborhood. Probably one of the most beautiful camp spots I’ve ever been to. The crazy part about it is I got there at night and had no idea where I was camping until I woke up in the morning to this scenery.

My camera on my phone was broken at this time but it was still an amazing period to take photos.

are there any good spots to camp around San Diego? Any ones you like the best?

thanks!

collin
