Heather and I visited and filmed for an upcoming episode a visit to Bandalier National Monument located down slope from Los Alamos, New Mexico. What a stunning place. This will be the adventure episode we will post this coming weekend. Definitely worth the visit and great camp sites.
The tip:
The park doesn't allow people to drive in and park at the visitor center unless you have a pet along, are disabled, or similar. You have to park your vehicle in the town of White Rock outside the park and take the free shuttle to the visitor center. However, if you camp in the park, none of that is valid. You can camp at Juniper campground and either hike to the visitor center or catch a shuttle that stops right across the road from the campground to the visitor center.
Heather and I hiked to the visitor center, then did a loop hike to see the dwellings, and then rode the shuttle back to camp (as the trail in and out of camp requires switchbacks (down going to the visitor center) and up back to camp.
Here are a few photos.
I just watched the video, that looks like a really serene place to spend the day!!!
